Route Markers[]
The race begins at Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Teams must take a marked taxi to Mother's Beach, where they must pedal a Schiller water-bike to meet with host Phil Keoghan at Burton Chace Park. The first team to finish the course would receive tickets on a Delta Air Lines flight scheduled to depart half an hour ahead of the second flight, American Airlines, which would carry the remaining ten teams.
Teams must fly to Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Upon arrival, teams must make their way to Lagoa Heliport and sign up for a helicopter ride, and where they would find their next clue.
The Fast Forward instructions were given to teams after receiving their clue at Lagoa Heliport. Teams must make their way to Clube São Conrado Free Flight, where must ride a hang glider from Pedra Bonita and soar above the city to win the Fast Forward. However, in the event of unfavorable weather, teams would be informed that the task would not be available until optimal conditions returned so that they can complete the task safely. None of the teams won the Fast Forward, however, Justin & Diana attempted to do so, but were unable due to strong winds.
Teams must ride a helicopter ride to Urca Hill, passing the Christ the Redeemer statue. Upon landing, teams were asked a question, "What is the name of the monument you passed during the flight?" By giving the correct answer, teams would receive their next clue.
Choice A: Sand
Teams must make their way to Copacabana Beach, where they must play footvolley against a team of local professional players. The professionals will only play in Rio style (without using their hands), as per local regulations, however teams may play in American style. If teams could score six points before the professionals scored eighteen, they would receive their next clue.
Alex & Adam, Ernest & Jin, Jazmine & Danielle, Justin & Diana, Kelsey & Joey, Logan & Chris, and Tanner & Josh chose this task.
Choice B: Sidewalk
Teams must make their way to Copacabana Beach, where they must solve giant geometric slide puzzle derived from the beach's famous pavement, a Portuguese pavement. Once they have solved the puzzle, they would receive their next clue.
Teams must make their way to Arpoador Lookout to check in. For coming in first, Tanner & Josh won the Express Pass.
