Ashleigh Jende and Jarrod Jende are a team of Newlyweds on The Amazing Race: Australia v New Zealand.
Their otherwise strong performances were generally undercut by Jarrod, who would get easily flustered any time they struggled or he fell out of his comfort zone. In the finale, they fell behind during the Air portion of the Air, Land & Sea task, when Jarrod could not figure out how to work their binoculars, and their subsequent bickering dropped them behind. They continued to struggle to find their clue on the Land portion of the task, dropping them further behind, giving Jarrod and poor memory of the Pit Stop Greeters very little time to catch up on the final memory task, causing them to finish 3rd.
Profile[]
Ashleigh (27) and Jarrod (28) are a naive (yet cutthroat and insensitive) couple who recently who had their first year wedding anniversary. She is a hairdresser and he works as a PE teacher. With 'traditional' Anglo working class values, Ashleigh enjoys fulfilling her wifely duties such as cleaning and housework.
Their overseas travel is limited."We've only been to developed and English-speaking countries so we're expecting to encounter some culture shocks. I'm not good with the language barrier at the best of times," says Jarrod. Ashleigh adds: "I can stomach most things, but Jarrod will struggle. He likes his meat and three veg."
The high school couple describe themselves as competitive. They both go to the gym to keep fit and have entered triathlons but agree the Amazing Race will be their ultimate competition. "We do a lot of competitive things and always strive for the next biggest challenge, but there's not much bigger than this," sums up Jarrod. Jarrod admits: "We'd hate to lose to the New Zealanders!" Jarrod notes he would "push an Australian under a bus and do anything to win".
