Clearly, I'm More Intelligent than You is the season premiere of The Amazing Race 5.
Story[]
Eleven teams leave Santa Monica Pier and make their way to Montevideo, Uruguay, where they must locate a statue known as the "hand in the sand." In Uruguay, teams must carry a side of beef one-half mile, and then face the detour of "zips or chips" (zip lining from a hotel roof or playing roulette) before arriving at the pit stop.
Route Markers[]
The race begins at Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California, United States.
Teams must fly to Montevideo, Uruguay. Upon arrival, teams must take a bus to Punta del Este and find The Hand in the Sand. There are only two flights for the teams. The first flight is American Airlines and can only accommodate four teams. The second flight is United Airlines and can accommodate seven teams. Though the second flight departs later, it arrives earlier due to the first flight's longer layover. Once teams have booked tickets, they may not return it for tickets to the other flight.
Teams must take a ferry to Gorriti Island, where they would find their next clue.
On Gorriti Island, teams must search for tickets for ferries leaving the following morning. Teams will either depart on the 8:00, 8:30, or 9:00 ferry. Once they have taken a ticket, they may not switch for another one. Once back on the Punta del Este dock, they would find their next clue.
Team must make their way to Maldonado and find the José Francisco González Meat Warehouse, where they would find their next clue.
Teams must carry a 55-pound slab of meat 0.5 miles from the meat warehouse and deliver it to the butcher at La Rosada Carniceria in exchange for their next clue.
During the delivery, teams would have the option to Yield a team. None of the teams opted to use the Yield.
Teams must return to Punte del Este and find the "blue and white hotel", leaving teams to figure out that this referred to the Conrad Punta del Este hotel, where their next clue would be found across from the hotel.
Choice A: Zips
Teams must ascend into a penthouse across the hotel and travel by zip-line 210 feet (64 m) above the ground, then take a second zip line 18 stories down to the hotel pool to receive their next clue.
Alison & Donny, Bob & Joyce, Brandon & Nicole, Colin & Christie, Dennis & Erika, Jim & Marsha, and Linda & Karen chose this task.
Choice B: Chips
Teams must win a game of roulette in the hotel casino with 20 chips to receive their next clue. If they lost all of their chips, they would have to do the Zips task.
Teams must make their way to Punta Ballena and find Casapueblo to check in. For coming in first, Alison & Donny won a trip to Hawaii, provided by American Airlines.
