The Double Elimination is a game-changing twist where the last two teams to check in the Pit Stop will be eliminated.

History

This twist first and only appeared in Season 19, where the host Phil Keoghan informing the last team at the end of the first leg that the following leg would be a Double Elimination, meaning two teams are eliminated, instead of the usual one. The twist also appeared in some international versions.

Appearances

In the second leg, Ethan & Jenna forcing them to backtrack, after came in ninth place and donating all of their money at the Aisyiyah Orphanage, checking in and came in tenth place. After Phil eliminated Ethan & Jenna, the last team checked in and donated all of their money, Ron & Bill were eliminated.

In the second leg of The Amazing Race 4 (Latin America), received a 2-hour penalty for refusing to complete one of the sides of the U-Turn, and a 30-minute penalty for not picking up their Roadblock clue, dropping their placement to 10th, after Paulo Zulu eliminated Billy & Gean, Paulo came out to the Roadblock location and eliminated Ci & Lu.

In the fifth leg of The Amazing Race 5 (Latin America), Débora & Renata and Beto & Juanjo initially arrived 6th and 8th respectively, however they received a 2-hour penalty for refusing to complete the additional task in the Club Universitario de Regatas. Additionally, Débora & Renata received a 30-minute penalty for not completing correctly the additional task where they had to make a Race flag. Beto & Juanjo stayed in 8th, while Débora & Renata dropped to 9th (last), and since this was a double-elimination leg, both teams were eliminated from the Race.

In the eighth leg of The Amazing Race Philippines 2, after AJ & Jody completed two sides of the U-Turn, they checked in at the pit stop and came in 5th (last). After eliminating AJ & Jody, Vince & Ed arrived at the mat and came in 6th place.

In the fifth leg of The Amazing Race Vietnam 2019, Minh Triệu & Kỳ Duyên were initially eliminated for arriving 7th, but S.T Sơn Thạch & Bình An used their Express Pass to save them from elimination. After they saved from elimination, Song Luan eliminated Quốc Thiên & Anh Quân for being in last place.

In the seventh leg of The Amazing Race Canada 8, after Cedric & Tychon learned the American manual alphabet, they check in the pit stop and came in 7th (last). After eliminating Cedric & Tychon, Cassie & Jahmeek arrived at the mat and came in 8th place.

The only trailing team, Astrid & Aleja, had already checked-in but were waiting on a shorter penalty, dropping Débora & Renata into last place, eliminating them. Juanjo & Beto also received a 2-hour penalty for refusing to complete the Club Universitario de Regatas task, but as they checked in second-to-last, they were eliminated without having the penalty applied. As their total penalty time was shorter than Débora & Renata's, this placed them above them.
