How Am I Going to Survive This? is the penultimate episode of The Amazing Race 34.

Story[]

The final four teams race through Iceland to clinch a spot in the finale and a chance to win the $1 million prize.

Route Markers[]

Teams were flown to Reykjavík, Iceland, and were flown to Mýrdalshreppur via helicopter, where they began the next leg at Sólheimajökull.

The order of departure from Sólheimajökull are as follows:

  1. Luis & Michelle (1:00 pm)
  2. Aubrey & David (1:00 pm)
  3. Derek & Claire (1:15 pm)
  4. Emily & Molly (1:15 pm)

Both team members must climb the side of the Sólheimajökull glacier and each retrieve a flag of Iceland (Iceland), which they may then exchange their next clue.

Teams must drive themselves to the Bleiksárgljúfur riverside waterfall (fljótshlíðarfoss), where they would find their next clue.

"Who's feeling misty-eyed?"

The team member assigned to this Roadblock must abseil 100 feet into a cave to retrieve their next clue. They must then navigate down a river through a canyoning course to reunite with their partner before reading their clue.

The Roadblock performers per team are underlined:

Teams must drive themselves to Silfra Fissure at Thingvellir National Park, where they would find their next clue.

Teams must don snorkeling gear and swim through a marked course in the waters in the fissure. Along the way, they must take note of submerged signs detailing 14 Icelandic volcanoes and the years they erupted.

The correct answers are:

  • 2021: Fagradalsfjall
  • 2011: Grímsvötn
  • 2010: Eyjafjallajökull
  • 2004: Grímsvötn
  • 1991: Hekla
  • 1973: Eldfell
  • 1963: Surtsey
  • 1875: Askja
  • 1823: Katla
  • 1766: Hekla
  • 1625: Katla
  • 1477: Torfajökull
  • 1104: Hekla
  • 934: Eldgjá
At the end of the course, they must match the volcano names with the correct eruption years. Once they have successfully matched the volcanoes with their respective eruption years, a volcanologist would reveal their next location. If they are incorrect, they must swim through the fissure again before they are allowed to make another attempt.

Teams must drive themselves to Gullfoss Falls to check in.
For coming in first place, Derek & Claire won Expedia reward points for a five-night trip for two to London, England, United Kingdom.
