Kym Bouckaert and Donna Verney are an Engaged team on The Amazing Race Australia 2.

Much was expected of them after they managed strong finishes in the first three legs. However, they got lost in Dubai after not buying a map and getting hopelessly lost, after which Kym completely gave up. They were subsequently eliminated in the field by Grant in 9th place.

Describing themselves as "a couple of old knuckleheads in love", recently-engaged Kym and Donna have only been together for just over a year and are still finding it hard to keep their hands off each other.

"She was the receptionist at my office and I thought she was cute," says Kym, 46, of how they met.

However it hasn't all been plain sailing for this quirky, loved-up couple from Brisbane, who almost lost everything in the Queensland floods.

"We both lost our jobs," explains 42 year old Donna. "I couldn't find anywhere to live. I had no job which has never happened to me before. We were in a mess."

But this pair with a distinctive rockabilly style bounced back, and are looking forward to getting on the road.

"We like going on adventures and having fun," says Kym. "We work our bums off in day-to-day life and we don't get much time together even though we love each other to bits."

On their rare days off, Kym and Donna like to get out into the great outdoors. "Kayaking would be number one," says Kym. "Just getting out on the bay, cruising along the clear blue water and talking in silly accents."

After training as a special ops officer in the army, Kym is a confirmed adrenalin junkie who loves rock climbing and four wheel driving. Together Kym and Donna have just started jive dancing.

"We're both Peter Pans," says Donna. "We don't like to be mature or grown up."

And the hardest thing about the race? "I'll be as homesick as hell by the time we finish," says Donna, originally from New Zealand. "I'm a homebody. I love living in Brisbane, but when it comes down to it I'm a country girl really."

But this team aren't concerned but the potential for some tough competition on the race.

Donna says "We've got enough friends, we're old. We don't need more friends but you always need more money."

Kym

What did you do for a living before The Amazing Race Australia? I drove around all day between building sites in Brisbane solving problems for Builders. Often referred to as a Timber Whore I get involved in their construction jobs offering advice and solutions to their problems.
How did you first meet? Don was the cute receptionist for the Timber Company we worked for. The yard boys would find any excuse to have to go inside and ask a question so they could take a look at what she was wearing that day. I chased them all off and told them she was mine. I wasn’t wrong eventually.
In what ways do you think you complement each other as a team? We just make each other happy. We enjoy doing everything together, even hard stuff. I’m probably a little hard headed but Don trusts me and will go where ever I lead. Don is physically a weapon of mass destruction; there are many athletes that would love to have a 6 pack like hers.
What strong points do you have that you think will help you win the race? Life experience will be on our sides I think. It helps to have been around the block once or twice. I still go pretty good for an old fella physically and don’t remember the last time I was afraid of something. Don is incredible physically.
How are you planning to deal with the stress so you don’t crack on the race? When I get stressed Don is going to yell Avocado (it’s my happy food) and if she starts to lose it I’m yelling shoes, if you knew Don that would make sense.
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done? I’ve jumped off a high waterfall and hung from a cable under helicopters. Rock climbing, paragliding and asking Don to marry me are right up there.
What was the first thing you did when you learned that you had been selected to be on The Amazing Race Australia? I don’t think we believed we were on until after we left. There’s a lot of organising that goes into going missing from your life for a few weeks.
What’s one quality about your team mate that could hold you back during the race? I love Don, if she cries I feel like crying. She will cry.[2]

Donna

What did you do for a living before The Amazing Race Australia? I'm an Aerobics Instructor and was also working in a fashion boutique.
How did you first meet? Kymbo and I used to work together in a Timber Yard for a couple of years before we started seeing each other.
In what ways do you think you complement each other as a team? When Kymbos got his game on, I’m happy to follow, so there shouldn’t be too much fighting.
What strong points do you have that you think will help you win the race? We have always thought that our age and life experience should give us an advantage in the race.
How are you planning to deal with the stress so you don’t crack on the race? We’re hoping to have stress “Code” words when it all getting too much. Kymbos is “avocado” and I can’t remember if mine was “shoes” or “lay-by” but anything shopping related really! Also hoping we can use our sense of humour to break the tension. That’s a never fail for us!
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done? 'm not really a very daring person I don’t think. Probably my tattoos are pretty out there, I’m not expecting a huge modelling career to take off!!
What was the first thing you did when you learned that you had been selected to be on The Amazing Race Australia? I don’t think Kymbo and I ever really believed it. So when we were finally told to go it was just a mad race to organise time away from jobs, pack up your home, your pets etc... It’s a big job to fall off the face of the earth for weeks.
What’s one quality about your team mate that could hold you back during the race? Definitely Kymbos smoking. It’s a real concern for me. Hes a heavy smoker and hasn’t been able to give up, despite trying.[3]
