Lauren & Steph

Lauren Howells and Steph McGrath are a team of Cop Couple on The Amazing Race Australia 6.

They were inconsistent racers, generally finishing a leg on the podium while immediately dropping to the back of the pack in the next leg. This continued until they were thrown into isolation after contracting COVID-19 in Türkiye. When they returned in the third Belize leg, they overcame their Speed Bump to stay in the Race and beating Jodie & Claire in a footrace to the mat.

The duo then spent the next back-to-back-to-back legs in Mexico at a steady pace, even overcoming a U-Turn along the way. Unfortunately, despite finishing the Roadblock of the final Mexico leg in 2nd to last, they got so lost on the way to the Pit Stop that by the time they arrived, it was too dark for them to perform the zipline to the mat safely. As a result, Beau went up to them to eliminate them from the Race in 6th place.

Lauren and Steph are partners at work and at home. They have known each other two years through working as policewomen, and although they are complete opposites, their dynamic works. Steph is easily excitable, very organised and quick witted. She likes to do the job once and get it right. Lauren is slightly more reserved, slightly less organised and relaxed. Coming from a big family, she is very competitive, especially during board game nights!

Described as 'a couple of strong lady coppers', they want to win to prove they can support each other through anything, and they would use the prize money to buy a house together.

What would you do with the prize money? I would pay off my mortgage, complete all my renovations and then move on to buying a house in my favourite suburb with Steph.
What are you looking forward to the most on The Amazing Race Australia? I'm really excited to travel with Steph to new places and experience road blocks and detours, and potentially attempt a fast forward. I’ve been a huge fan of the show for years and the idea of getting to compete and complete these challenges is so exciting. I can’t wait to be placed into challenging situations and experience the complete unknown.

What do you think will be your biggest advantage or strength in The Race? I think as Police Officers we have a broad, diverse skill set that is unique and applicable to The Race. We can communicate extremely well with other, members of the public, our race mates and each other.
What type of people do you find it difficult to get along with? I don't like people who bully others and put people down.

Notes: 1: After contracting COVID-19, Lauren & Steph were unable to compete until they received medical clearance. 2: Lauren & Steph returned in Leg 14 after receiving medical clearance to compete again. For being allowed to re-enter the Race, Lauren & Steph had to perform a Speed Bump. 3: For their Speed Bump in Leg 14, both Lauren and Steph had to complete the second Roadblock. Since Steph opted to perform the Roadblock first before finding out both of them had to do it, only her performance is included in the Roadblock tally.
