Lucas Bocanegra and Brittany Austin are a team of Dating Lifeguards, and later Engaged Lifeguards, on The Amazing Race 30.

After nine years of dating, Lucas came into the race looking to propose to Brittany. However, his decision to wait for the perfect opportunity to do so put the proposal on hold as the dating lifeguards struggled in the early legs, in addition to Brittany developing a heated rivalry with Jessica Graf. Lucas finally decided that the time was right after they won the fifth leg in France, with Brittany accepting. From then on, Lucas & Brittany hit their stride, winning three legs on their way to the final five. However, Lucas lost his passport on a connecting flight to Bahrain during the ninth leg. Although the dating lifeguards were able to get Lucas a temporary passport, the time lost put them hours behind the other teams, leading to their elimination in 5th place.

What is the accomplishment you are most proud of? Having such a badass chick who can do anything even if I don't express it as much, and bringing two people back to life after drowning using CPR with coworkers.
What scares you most about traveling? Pooping. I hate pooping in public places.
What excites you most about traveling? Seeing and experiencing things I was never aware of. Participating and interacting with other cultures.
What country and place would you most like to visit and why? Fiji, Bali, India, New Zealand, Australia, and Uluwatu, Bali to surf perfect waves with Brittany.
What do you hope to accomplish by running the race (other than winning $1 million)? Communication in stressful situations with each other. I assume she can read my mind and knows what to do. I suck at public affection and she constantly wants attention.

Favorite hobbies: Swimming, surfing, rowing, horseback riding, and reading romance novels.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of? Buying a house with the man of my dreams and winning the open Surfboat Row at Nationals with my awesome rowing partner, Alex.
What scares you most about traveling? Getting sick and not being able to enjoy the experience.
What excites you most about traveling? Seeing different cultures and seeing the world!
What country and place would you most like to visit and why? Fiji!! The ocean!
What do you hope to accomplish by running the race (other than winning $1 million)? Besides the money for a beautiful wedding and home renovations, I hope to learn to work better with Lucas, improve our communication, and have his undivided attention for a whole month!

Notes:
1: On Leg 7, teams switched partners for part of the leg, with Lucas & Brittany switching partners with Alex & Conor. The rows on Leg 7 are in order of team name (i.e. Lucas is the first row, Brittany is the second). The finishes on Leg 7 are not averaged in with the other legs teams raced due to the twist. Lucas raced with Conor, while Brittany raced with Alex.
2: By the time Lucas & Brittany arrived at the Dhow Shipyard in Muharraq, all teams had already checked in at the Pit Stop. Host Phil Keoghan came out to their location in order to inform them of their elimination.

Post-Race[]

  • In 2019, Brittany was featured in an Allure Work It video about her daily life as a lifeguard. Lucas also made an appearance.[2]
  • Lucas & Brittany got married on November 2, 2019.[3] They went to Bali for their honeymoon, on a trip they won on the fifth leg of the race.[4]
  • On December 15, 2021, Brittany announced on Instagram that she and Lucas were expecting a baby boy through IVF.[5]
    • On June 12, 2022, Brittany announced the birth of their son, Nico Ren Bocanegra, in a birthday appreciation post to Lucas.[6]
  • On October 4, 2024, their daughter, Luna, was born.[7]

  • Lucas & Brittany are the youngest oldest co-ed team in any season, with an average age of 33.
  • Lucas & Brittany are the first team to be eliminated in Bahrain.
  • Lucas & Brittany are the only co-ed team to be eliminated in The Amazing Race 30.
  • Host Phil Keoghan listed Lucas proposing to Brittany after winning the fifth leg as one of his favorite moments of the first 30 seasons.[8]
