Son & Mother

One of Australia's much-loved comedians with his unique blend of awkward charm, self-deprecating jokes and razor-sharp wit, Luke McGregor is looking forward to travelling around the world and solving puzzles with his teammate and mother, Julie McGregor.

His strategy to win the Race is the same he uses in supermarkets, try and go as fast as he can while being as kind as possible to everyone around him.

A hugely popular comedian, writer and actor, Luke began his comedy career in Tasmania when he entered the 2007 RAW Comedy competition after one of the contestants did not show up.

From these humble beginnings, Luke's stand up shows My Soul Mate Is Out Of My League, I Worry That I Worry Too Much and Almost Fixed It have won awards and played to sold out crowds across Australia and in the UK.

Luke is the co-creator, co-writer, and co-star of the smash-hit sitcom Rosehaven with Celia Pacquola, a role for which Luke won Most Popular Actor at the 2019 TV Week Logie Awards. He also presented Luke Warm Sex, had regular roles on Utopia and Legally Brown and appeared in Please Like Me. His ‘ginger wonderland' date with Sibylla Budd in It's A Date stole the show, and he garnered cult figure status amongst the celebrities lucky enough to be interviewed by him on Dirty Laundry. Luke has also appeared on True Story with Hamish & Andy, The Project as a correspondent and Spicks & Specks. In 2020, Luke finally found a use for his Economics degree, joining The Weekly with Charlie Pickering for his 'Lukenomics' segment.

Most recently, he was a contestant on the first series of the Logie-nominated Taskmaster Australia and disappeared through the blue door in Thank God You're Here.

While Luke is looking forward to seeing parts of the world he might not otherwise get the chance to see, and maybe win the Race, his main goal is to form a deeper bond with his mother Julie as they don't get to hang out one-on-one very often these days.

Normally not one to put herself in the spotlight, retired real estate agent and proud grandmother Julie is looking forward to experiencing something that is completely outside her comfort zone while making some great memories with her son.

Using the puzzle solving skills Luke has finely tuned while playing video games over the years, and Julie's calmness under pressure, the mother-son team hope these skills plus their great sense of human will help them win the Race.
