Medically Exempt is a rare method of temporary elimination when a team is unable to return to the race voluntarily until they have received medical clearance. Due to the fact that a majority of seasons' legs are filmed sequentially, this is a extraordinarily rare occurrence, and to date all medical exemptions have been for COVID-19 positive tests.
Medically exempt teams are typically penalized with a Speed Bump upon returning to the race.
This is not to be confused with a discharge, in which a team is unable to continue and does not return to the race.
