  • Hey there! My name is Mandy, and I’m the Fandom Wiki Manager assigned to the Amazing Race Wiki. No worries, I am not here to take over. My job is to help the community and serve as a liaison between contributors and full-time Fandom staff. I will be your primary point of contact should any assistance be needed, so if you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, etc., don't hesitate to leave a message on my wall and I will do my best to help. If I am unable to solve your issue, I will be able to get in contact with a staff member that can. I will also be getting in contact with the rest of the active admins in this community to introduce myself and inform them of my position. In the meantime, please let me know if there's anything I can do for you or if you have any further questions regarding my role, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Looking forward to working with you in the future!

  • Hi,

Is there a rule for adding new episode pages?

      Loading editor
    • As long as it follows Manual of Style (i.e. the prescribed format on how a page should look like), you're good.

  • Hello, Ian

If you have time, I was wondering if you could give me the list of categories that should be present for each type of page (episodes, teams, seasons, etc.). This is for the manual of style pages that I am currently working on.

    Thanks!

    - Pat

    • Only add those that fit in a page. For route marker pages (ex. Route Info, Detour, Roablock, etc), just merely make a new.

  • Hey Ian,

I've applied the template of the new layout (Profile, Amazing Race X, Race History, Post-Race, Trivia and References) onto all TAR3, TAR4, TAR5, TAR6 and TAR7 contestants. However, I haven't added the new tables under Race History, because I don't know how to change the colouring in the table (the colour coded cells reflecting non-elims, leg wins etc.).

Just making sure, we're removing Memorable Moments and Records, correct?

Finally, could you please link me to your facebook? I'm very keen in assisting you on "modernizing" the site, and I'd like to have clearer communication access to you :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Victor

  • Hello Ian,

It noticed that you have applied your proposed layout to Season 2 pages. I was wondering if I could get an update on your proposed layout. Thanks!

  • Hey, it's Linusblanket2100 again.

I am writing to ask why you haven't yet put my leaderboard design up for voting by the wiki like you originally promised. I don't think that it's quite fair that you promised that you would go about that and then, once I posted my leaderboard, tossed it to the side and called it a day. You might think that certain aspects of it are "superflous" such as the colors, but the few other users that commented on it liked certain aspects of it. Now that you're an admin, shouldn't you be more open to compromise? You did ask for feedback and even if you don't toally agree with the whole design, you should still let others have a say in it and see the parts that do work. In fact, I made a new version of my leaderboard that I formed using the feedback I got for the first one. I don't mean to come across as beligerant and I don't want to make any enemies on this wiki, I just want what's fair.

    Thanks!

    • First, the said thread was supposed to be the actual voting thread, but since no one could come up with a succinct chart, I made changes that any element that is not present in a season (i.e. A yield convention would not appear in the chart if it wasn't employed at all). Second, again, economy of colors. A I'm doing a ranking chart, not a coloring book. Also, I don't proliferate anything sexist by using that gender identifying colors. Third, the roadblock performance count would be on the respective teams' pages.

    • First of all I don't see how it is "sexist" to label gender identifying colors when it is usually the most commonly known convention, although I get what you are saying.

I kind of like the Icon-Roadblock count in the table, actually, to show face value how many RBs each team had allocated, while the specifics would be in team pages. I mean, we still put the number of votes received by a player in Survivor in the season page even though those details are in castaway pages.

I personally don't see using different colors to indicate things, as it is one of the most basic ways to indicate legends, without necessarily using words.

What do you mean by your last statement? Are you saying you like the use of different colors or not?

  • Is the layout in Season 1 already the approved layout for the other seasons? I just need that clarification so that I can start helping with applying these layouts to the other season pages. Thanks!

    • I'll make a go-signal before anything. I'm just finalizing the layout for season 1 so everyone knows my train of thought. lol

P.S. if it's okay with you, facebook friend?

        Loading editor
    • Oh, ok. Just making sure because I noticed late seasons (Season 25 and Canada 2) having their pages already refurbished to the layout.

Regarding Facebook, I have to be very cautious with my friend requests. I'll go back to you for the response.

  • How long do you figure it's going to be before you move onto reformatting other seasons besides Season 1?

Once you've got the style you want for season/team pages down pat, I'm eager to help, too :) Hopefully it won't be too difficult to convert the syntax.

    • You can spearhead converting other seasons and versions to my MoS. However, I am still trying to figure out the best presentation for the "Race history" bit - which would feature their standing per leg, the detours they chose, who performed the rodblock, when they used the FF, Yield/U-turn, etc.

    • So far I am contented with the changes I made for season 1 (I didn't want to move on to future seasons until I am contented with the layout of the season 1 pages). I kinda experimented in these past few days, trying out any possible way to improve the appearance of each page. So far, I am good with the changes I made for the season and team pages. After finishing the teams, I'm setting the MoS for episodes.

As for the coding, the codes are made as concise and easy to learn as possible. Edit away!

    • I`ve just been waiting for you to fine-tune it, but I think I'm going to give it a shot as it is on an international season :)

  • Ian, can you be more specific with these "superfluous pages" you are deleting? Can you give examples of what a "superfluous page" is? Thanks!

      1. Redirect pages with a title that had the team's name in reverse (Rom & Amber - Amber & Rob
      2. List of teams of season so-and-so
      3. Individual pages concerning episode ratings, airdates, locations, and among other things that could've been covered in one episode article.
        Loading editor
      1. Also, pages that have nothing to do with the Amazing Race.
      2. Blind u-turn, which could be covered in the actual U-turn article.
      3. Greeter subpages
