Married
Married for over 20 years, comedian Pete Helliar and wife Bridget have travelled extensively together, and with their three sons, and have developed a very good shorthand. The couple know each other's strengths, mindset, body language and pressure points, they know when the other needs a bit of support, is tired or frustrated, and they plan to use this knowledge to their advantage on the Race.
A stand-up comedian, writer, presenter and producer, Pete has been a regular fixture on our TV screens over the years. He first appeared on our TV screens as a core cast member on the Logie Award-winning Rove back in 1999, and went on to co-host The Project on Network 10 from 2014 through to the end of 2022.
Pete created and co-produced two series of the award-winning It's A Date for ABC TV, and wrote, directed and starred in all three seasons of Network 10's widely loved dramedy, How to Stay Married.
He will be appearing in Network 10's new season of Taskmaster Australia and joining the cast of Peter and the Starcatcher stage production this October.
Pete has performed stand-up for almost three decades, selling out shows right across the
country. His 2021 comedy hour Loopy was recorded at Melbourne's iconic Chapel Off Chapel theatre in a one-off exclusive performance and is available to stream on Paramount+.
Pete is the author of the much-loved children's book series, Frankie Fish. In 2018, Frankie Fish was voted one of Australia's Top 50 kids books in the annual Better Reading Top 50 Kids Books poll. Pete also co-authored the children's book Trippin' With Kids with his wife Bridget. At the end of 2022, he released another children's book called Herman Crab.
Pete is also host of the very funny movie podcast You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet.
As a performer, Pete knows how to throw himself into a moment, even if it is outside his comfort zone. Although he is a man of many talents, he believes he may be the least skilled contestant ever on The Amazing Race as Bridget is the handyman of their house and knows how to get things done.
Bridget is the manager and co-founder, alongside Pete, of social media app Sprook, an app that connects family and friends through the exchange and recommendation of TV shows and movies on the streaming services that they are enjoying.
Growing up with six brothers on a little bit of land, Bridget spent her childhood active outside enjoying plenty of adventures. She is extremely organised, good at navigation and map reading, following direction and fixing or putting things together, which will all be put to good use on the Race.
Keen to push herself and get to the end, Bridget's determination, persistence and drive for success, no matter how scared she may be or how hard something might be, will make her a strong competitive force on the Race and a great partner to Pete.
Together, Pete and Bridget plan to be fun, live in the moment, play the game fairly, do their best, support each other and just be themselves, a strong married couple who love travelling. Their strategy is to read the instructions carefully and plan before attempting the challenge, do things properly first, it's best to head in the right direction slowly than the wrong direction fast, have clear heads, be in the moment, enjoy and make their sons proud.
