Ready to Lose Our Lives is the ninth episode of The Amazing Race 2.
Synopsis[]
This leg of the race is filled with adventurous challenges as the teams make their way through the spectacular backdrop of New Zealand.
Four teams race from the Australian Outback to the South Island of New Zealand where they confront a high-speed jet boat river ride, an unruly flock of sheep and a 450-foot bungee jump, one of the largest in the world.[2]
Story[]
Route Markers[]
The order of departure from the Aboriginal Camp are as follows:
- Chris & Alex (3:35 am)
- Blake & Paige (5:01 am)
- Tara & Wil (5:06 am)
- Oswald & Danny (5:09 am)
Teams must drive themselves back to Coober Pedy, then load their vehicles onto a trailer called a road train that would transport them to Glendambo. Once there, they must drive themselves to Glendambo Airstrip, where they must sign up for one of two charter flights back to Adelaide. The first charter flight could only carry two teams and would depart at 10:30 am. The second charter flight could carry the last two teams and would depart at 11:15 am. They must then fly to Queenstown, New Zealand. Upon arrival, they must make their way to Wentworth Station, where they must choose a driver and a marked vehicle with their next clue on the windshield.
The Fast Forward instructions were given to teams at the Pit Start. Teams must make their way to Shotover Jet Boat Tours, where they must ride a jetboat up the Shotover River. During the ride, they must spot a flag in Race colors where they could claim the Fast Forward pass. Blake & Paige won the Fast Forward.
Teams must direct their driver to the Nevis River valley. There, they must take a gondola up to the Nevis Highwire Platform, where they would find their next clue.
Choice A: Quick Jump
Teams must tandem bungee jump 450 feet (140 m) down to the bottom of the Nevis River valley, the second-highest bungee jump in the world at the time, where they would find their next clue.
Chris & Alex, Oswald & Danny, and Tara & Wil chose this task.
Choice B: Long Hike
Teams must hike down a long, marked path to the bottom of the Nevis River valley, where they would find their next clue.
Teams must drive themselves to the Inverary Sheep Station, where they would find their next clue.
"That person should be ready for a wild and woolly time."
The team member assigned to perform this Roadblock must enter a pen full of sheep and, without tackling or carrying any sheep, separate the three black sheep from 22 white sheep to a smaller pen at the end of the corral. Once they were finished, they may proceed to the nearby Pit Stop to check in.
The Roadblock performers per team are underlined:
For coming in first place, Blake & Paige won a trip to Puerto Rico, provided by American Airlines Vacations.Leaderboard[]
