Speed Bump

Template:Infobox Format A Speed Bump is an additional task assigned as a penalty for the team that checks in last during a non-elimination leg.

Beginning in Season 12 teams who were saved from elimination during a non-elimination leg will have to perform an extra task sometime during the next leg. Teams would be alerted to the upcoming Speed Bump by a Route Marker clue prior to it; the Speed Bump itself is displayed in a manner similar to the Yield showing the affected team's picture at a stand near to the regular Route Marker. Once the team completes the Speed Bump task, the next clue they receive is the clue that they would have received at the Route Marker. If a team does not complete a Speed Bump, the team will receive a four-hour penalty at the Pit Stop (as shown in the Latin American version).

All seasons of The Amazing Race Latinoamérica and The Amazing Race Canada also used the Speed Bump. Ariel & Nora became the first team to receive a Speed Bump and quit it. The Amazing Race Australia introduced the Speed Bump on their 3rd season.

• Kynt & Vyxsin arrived last in the 7th leg. They arrived last in the 8th leg and were eliminated.
• TK & Rachel arrived fourth in the 9th leg. They arrived 2nd in the 10th leg, were assessed a penalty but survived.

The Amazing Race 13

• Ken & Tina arrived last in the 6th leg. They arrived 4th in the 7th leg and survived.
• Andrew & Dan arrived last in the 9th leg. They arrived 2nd in the 10th leg and survived. In addition to that, they won a spot in the final leg.

The Amazing Race 14

• Christie & Jodi arrived last in the 5th leg. They arrived last in the 6th leg and were eliminated.
• Mark & Michael arrived last in the 8th leg due to a penalty. They arrived last in the 9th leg and were eliminated.

The Amazing Race 15

• Maria & Tiffany arrived last in the 1st leg. They also had a penalty in that leg, although they had already arrived last. They arrived 7th in the 2nd leg and survived.
• Gary & Matt arrived last in the 8th leg. They arrived last in the 9th leg and were eliminated.
• Brian & Ericka arrived last in the 10th leg. They arrived 3rd, although they had a penalty. Their placement was not effected by it and they survived. In addition to that, they won a spot in the final leg.

The Amazing Race 16

• Jordan & Jeff arrived last in the 4th leg. They arrived 7th in the 5th leg and survived.
• Jet & Cord arrived last in the 6th leg. They arrived 1st in the 8th leg and survived, becoming the first team ever to place last in a non-elimination leg, be assigned a Speed Bump in the following leg and then come in first place in that following leg.
• Louie & Michael arrived last in the 10th leg. They arrived last in the 11th leg and were eliminated.

The Amazing Race 17

• Michael & Kevin arrived last in the 3rd leg. They arrived 4th in the 4th leg and survived.
• Nick & Vicki arrived last in the 10th leg and they also encountered a 6 hour penalty for not completing the Detour. They arrived last in the 11th leg and were eliminated.

• Gary & Mallory arrived 6th in the 8th leg. They arrived 4th in the 9th leg and survived.

• Bill & Cathi arrived last in the 1st leg. They arrived 7th in the 2nd leg and survived.

• James & Abba arrived last in the 7th leg. They arrived last in the 8th leg and were eliminated, because of losing one of their passports on 7th leg in Russia.
• Natalie & Nadiya arrived last in the 10th leg. They arrived last in the 11th leg and were eliminated.

• Max & Katie arrived last in the 6th leg. They arrived 6th in the 7th leg and survived.
• Mona & Beth arrived last in the 9th leg. They arrived 4th in the 10th leg and survived although getting U-Turned.
