Geoff "Sticky" Stick and Sam Hay are a team of Flatmates on The Amazing Race Australia 2.

They would quickly become a force to be reckoned with, as they managed a large number of strong finishes within the first half of the season. However, their momentum would eventually die when they missed a flight out of France, and only the combination of Joseph & Grace's penalty and the leg being a No-Rest Leg would save them. However, they were eliminated on the next leg when they had navigation issues in Cuba, getting lost while looking for the crocodile farm, and wound up 7th.

Geoff, or "Sticky" to his mates, and Sam met at school in Launceston 12 years ago and have been best friends ever since.

These flatmates also compete together in the same cricket and football clubs – no mean feat given Sticky was born without a left forearm.

"Sticky's just an inspirational bloke. He's better than me at just about anything, including with the ladies!" says Sam.

And the boys are determined that nothing will hold them back on the race.

"I just want to prove to myself and anyone who's ever doubted me that my arm won't stop me from doing anything," explains Sticky.

"It's never held me back before and I don't see why it will now."

These sports-mad mates have both competed at an elite level. Sticky trained in javelin at the Australian Institute of Sport and is hoping to be selected in the Australian Paralympic team, while Sam has played grade cricket.

And look out ladies – both Sam and Sticky are single and on the lookout for love.

"It'd be great to find love on the show," says Sticky.

The boys believe their easygoing nature will also stand them in good stead on the race.

"I don't think we really have a weakness," says Sam. "Unless of course anything comes down to luck because we're unlucky as hell."

What did you do for a living before The Amazing Race Australia? Before the amazing race I worked in a bank which was OK, but there were some parts of the job that I didn’t really enjoy. When I found out I was on the race I thought that was a good opportunity to leave my bank job and hopefully start a more exciting life.
How did you first meet? Sticky and I were in the same class in primary school when I was in grade 5 and he was in grade 6. We didn’t know each other at that stage though. It wasn’t until Sticky started playing cricket at the same club as me that we got to know each other and after a while we moved into a place together and have been best mates ever since.
In what ways do you think you complement each other as a team? I think the fact that Sticky and I spend so much time together as mates will help us a lot on the race. We tend to think the same way as each other and that is definitely going to help us save time and avoid disagreements with each other.
What strong points do you have that you think will help you win the race? We are pretty athletic guys and enjoy our sports, so anything physical we should be able to knock over pretty quickly. Also whenever we try new things, regardless of what it is, we tend to pick it up very quickly. So when other teams are still working out how to do something, hopefully we’ll just catch onto it straight away and go past other teams that have been struggling with it.
How are you planning to deal with the stress so you don’t crack on the race? Sticky and I are very laid back in everything we do. My mum has described me as the most laid back person she knows. We are also best mates that hardly ever fight. If we do fight within 5 minutes we just have a laugh about it and get over it. There are obviously going to be stressful times during the race when we get a bit stressed or maybe disagree but I just think we’ll suck it up and get over it.
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done? I’m not a very daring person at all! I don’t like scary things like heights, and snakes and spiders and stuff like that. Although I did jump of the diving board at the deep end of the pool once! That’s about as far as it goes for me unfortunately.
What was the first thing you did when you learned that you had been selected to be on The Amazing Race Australia? I was at the local pub when I got the call saying I was on the race and Sticky was still at work. So the first thing I did was call Sticky and tell him to leave work and come and have a beer with me.
What’s one quality about your team mate that could hold you back during the race? The one quality about Sticky that I think could hold us back is his terrible time management. He’s the sort of guy that wont get out of bed for anyone and is always late for things, or he will forget something and we’ll have to go back and get it. Which is usually fine, but it could cost us a little bit on the race.[2]
