Taylor and Katie are a small but mighty package. Having met at the University of Alberta while on the wrestling team, they formed a friendship both on and off the mat. They can often be found travelling and spending time outdoors.
Taylor takes her role as an Indigenous Sports Program Coordinator in Alberta very seriously. There, she tackles crucial issues impacting Indigenous communities and addresses concerns on education and health disparities, as well as culture preservation and self-empowerment through sport. Her work fosters an environment that motivates women, youth and families to engage in sports and land based learning. Taylor is a proud member of the Miawpukek First Nation, which is located in Conne River, Newfoundland.
Much like her teammate, as an educator, Katie uses her passion for physical education to encourage students to live an active lifestyle. Always drawn to contact sports such as wrestling, rugby, and football, Katie wants to empower youth in sports and volunteers her time, sharing her knowledge about wrestling. The loss of a friend in a recent car crash has also reinforced the sentiment that tomorrow is not a given and she strives to live life to the fullest.
Together they will use their strength and passion for sports to inspire others to overcome challenges and reach new heights.[2]
