The Amazing Race: European Adventure is the thirty-eighth season of the reality television show, The Amazing Race. It premiered on September 25, 2025 on CBS.
Production
The show was renewed for a thirty-eighth season and will air 90-minute episodes in the fall of 2025 alongside Survivor 49.[3] Filming of this season began on March 17, 2025 in the city of Hoorn, Netherlands, where the Big Brother franchise started, and concluded on April 9, 2025.[4][2][5]
On July 10, 2025, it was confirmed by host Phil Keoghan during an Entertainment Tonight interview with Big Brother host Julie Chen-Moonves that this season would feature teams with players who have previously competed on Big Brother with a loved one (either a family member or a significant other), coinciding with the show's twenty-fifth anniversary in the United States.[6] The cast was later officially revealed during the August 14, 2025 episode of Big Brother 27.
Casting
Casting finals took place on February 7, 2025.[7] Four-time Big Brother contestant and The Amazing Race 31 contestant Janelle Pierzina (Big Brother 6, 7, 14, and 22) was invited to compete, but declined due to insufficient compensation.[8] Danielle Reyes (Big Brother 3 and 7) and Xavier Prather (Big Brother 23) also declined due to similar reasons.[9] Josh Martinez (Big Brother 19) and his sister Maytee Martinez were in consideration, but were cut.[10] Cory Wurtenberger (Big Brother 25) and his brother Zach Wurtenberger of Survivor 42 were chosen as alternates, but ultimately did not make it to the final cast.[11] Ian Terry (Big Brother 14 and 22) and his girlfriend were considered, but both declined.[12] Haleigh Broucher (Big Brother 20) was considered, but declined due to school.[13]
Twists/Changes
- Reality Crossover: Each team consisted of at least one player from fellow CBS reality show, Big Brother, competing with their loved ones.
- Pre-Race Task: Prior to the official start of the Race, a Pre-Race Task was held. The first team to complete this challenge would win an Express Pass, while the last team to finish was penalized with a Hazard.
- Double Express Pass: The first team to complete the Pre-Race Task would be awarded two Express Passes. However, they must give the second Express Pass away to another team before the official start of the Race. Both Express Passes allow their holders to skip any task of their choosing until the end of the eighth leg.
- Hazard: The last team to complete the Pre-Race Task was penalized with an additional task in the first leg that only they would have to perform.
- Driver’s Seat: In the third leg, the first team to arrive at a designated board determined how much work the remaining teams had to do for that leg's Roadblock.
- Double U-Turn: Double U-Turns are available on certain legs of the Race.
