The Amazing Race 10 is the tenth season of the reality television show, The Amazing Race. It premiered on September 17, 2006 and ended on December 10, 2006 on CBS. The entire season was released on DVD (exclusively only through Amazon.com) on March 1, 2013.[1]

Production[]

The show moved to a new timeslot of Sundays at 8 pm, where it would stay for the next fourteen seasons.

Applications for this season were due on January 20, 2006 (one week later than the original deadline), while interviews were conducted in March and April 2006. Filming began on May 27, 2006 and finished on June 24, 2006. This season traveled a total of 40,000 miles (64,000 km) across 13 countries in four continents.

Sprint and Travelocity were the official sponsors during this season and provided prizes throughout the race to winning teams on certain legs.

Twists/Changes[]

  • Expanded Cast: For the first time since The Amazing Race 4, the Race featured 12 teams.
  • Superleg:
    • A Superleg consisted of 2 legs formed into one Double-Length Leg with a rest period midway throughout the leg.
    • A twist occurs midway in the portion of Double-Length Leg that the teams would learn "Keep Racing" at the end of the first half to begin the start of the second half.
  • Money: A one-time change happened at the start of the third leg, teams are not received money, instead they would earn their money for that leg by selling flowers during the Roadblock. However, they are not permitted to beg or sell items to exchange for money. The fourth leg would receive teams a local currency.
  • Yield: As with the previous season, the Yield has only two per race and it allows any one team to force another team to stop racing for a predetermined amount of time.
  • Intersection: An Intersection requires each team to pair up with one other team and perform all tasks and make decisions together until further notice. This was first debuted in the eighth leg.
  • Surprise Elimination: It is also called Midpoint Elimination that occurs each team is eliminated outside of the Pit Stop. Furthermore, the first leg would still have a standard elimination at the end.
  • Non-Elimination Legs: Following a serious change happened in the previous season, a new penalty occurs that the team may face Marked for Elimination for the last team to arrive.
    • If the team arrives first in the next leg, the penalty was nullified.
    • If the team does not arrive first, they could occur a 30-minute penalty until the last team to arrive in the Pit Stop. Unless, if the team arrives in last place, they will be eliminated.
  • Rules and Penalties:
    • A team that improperly used a mode of local transportation resulted in a 30-minute penalty.
    • A team member fails to complete the Roadblock would incur a 4-hour penalty.

Same symbols (^, ~, +, -, =, *) denote the teams that worked together during an Intersection

Notes:
1: Bilal & Sa'eed were the last team to arrive at the Meridian Gate in Forbidden City and were eliminated as per the provisions given at the start of the race.
2: Kellie attempted, but failed to complete, the Roadblock in Leg 2. Already in last, Kellie & Jamie then checked into the Pit Stop without the 4-hour penalty being applied because they came in last place and were eliminated.
3: Tom & Terry initially arrived 2nd, but were issued a 30-minute penalty for traveling on motorcycles, which had been specifically prohibited for safety reasons. As Tom & Terry were waiting out their penalty, six teams checked in, dropping them to 8th.
4: Because David & Mary finished 1st, their 30-minute "marked for elimination" penalty was nullified.
5: During the leg, Peter & Sarah had fallen so far behind that all the other teams had already checked into the Pit Stop before Peter & Sarah even arrived at the Detour. When they finally arrived at Souk Sulaibiya for the Manual Detour as it was already closed, Peter & Sarah were instructed to go directly to the Pit Stop, where they were eliminated.
6: Leg 7 featured an unaired Roadblock.
7: Due to an Intersection, Tyler & James and Rob & Kimberly were able to work together to complete the Fast Forward, thus both teams were able to skip all remaining tasks and head directly to the Pit Stop.
8: David & Mary initially arrived 5th, but were issued a 30-minute penalty for being "marked for elimination" and not arriving 1st. As David & Mary were waiting out their penalty, Lyn & Karlyn checked in, dropping David & Mary to last place and eliminating them.
9: Leg 9 was a double-length leg, with two Detours and two Roadblocks, shown over two episodes. The placements listed in the first column reflect the order teams arrived at the leg's halfway point.
10: Dustin & Kandice had been "marked for elimination;" however, since Dustin & Kandice arrived at the Pit Stop in last place, they were eliminated without the 30-minute penalty being applied.
11: The finishes in the first half of the superleg in Leg 9 is not counted as part of the average. Only the final finish in the leg is counted toward the average.
