We're Coming for You, Phil! is the season premiere of The Amazing Race 29.

Story[]

In a brand new twist, all 22 Racers are complete strangers who will meet on the starting line. Before 'GO,' Racers will immediately compete in a challenge that will determine the order for picking a Teammate, based on nothing but first impressions. These new pairs of Teammates will then have mere moments to learn their traveling companion's name before beginning a race around the world that will span 9 countries, 17 cities and 36,000 miles.

Twenty-two individuals arrive at the Starting Line at Grand Hope Park in Los Angeles, California, where they meet with host Phil Keoghan. Phil explains that, prior to the official start of the race, a challenge will be held to determine the racers' teammates. After being given a series of cardinal directions by Phil, racers must run to the F&M Gallery luggage store and pick up a piece of luggage with a tag that has the flag of Panama (Panama) on it and return to the Starting Line to show the luggage to Phil. The sooner a person returns with the correct piece of luggage, the sooner they will get to pick their partner. The order the racers completed this challenge are as follows:

To choose the teams, the racer who finished the challenge first, Seth, will be allowed to choose his partner. The highest-ranked unpaired racer will then choose any remaining unpaired racer as his or her teammate, with the process continuing until all eleven teams are determined. The teams that were formed are as follows:

  1. Seth chose Olive
  2. Matt chose Redmond
  3. Shamir chose Sara
  4. Scott chose Brooke
  5. Becca chose Floyd
  6. Vanck chose Ashton
  7. Tara chose Joey
  8. London chose Logan
  9. Jenn chose Kevin
  10. Michael chose Liz
  11. Jessie & Francesca were paired together by default

With all eleven teams now formed, Phil reveals that they will be flying to Panama City, Panama, as their first destination. Teams must take a taxi to Los Angeles International Airport, except for Jessie & Francesca who will instead be driven there by Phil himself as consolation for being paired together by default.

In addition, Phil reveals that inside of the luggages retrieved during the starting challenge contains the only Express Pass on the Race. In their taxi, Becca & Floyd find the Express Pass inside Floyd's luggage.

Route Markers[]

Teams must take a taxi to Los Angeles International Airport, then fly to Panama City, Panama. The first flight could carry five teams and is scheduled to arrive an hour and a half ahead of the second, which would carry the remaining six teams. Upon arrival, teams must drive themselves to the Miraflores Locks, where they would find their next clue. For being paired by default Jessie & Francesca did not have to take a taxi to Los Angeles International Airport, and would instead be driven there by host Phil Keoghan.

Teams must drive themselves to the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center at Soberanía National Park and make their way to the top of the canopy tower, where they would find their next clue.

Choice A: Shoot
Teams must make their way to Gamboa Rainforest Resort, where they must get into a traditional Panamanian canoe, known as a cayuco, and paddle to a marked area along the Chagres River, where they would find targets shaped like fish. They must use a bow and arrow to knock over two silver fish targets among several of different colors to receive their next clue.

Only Becca & Floyd chose this task.

Choice B: Scoot
Teams must make their way to Gamboa Rainforest Resort, where they must get into a modern cayuco and paddle themselves along the Chagres River to a marked course. They must then race against a pair of professional rowers and beat them in a 400-meter regatta to receive their next clue. If they fail to beat the professional rowers, they would receive a 50-meter head start on every subsequent attempt up until the 200-meter mark.

Brooke & Scott, Jessie & Francesca, Kevin & Jenn, Liz & Michael, London & Logan, Matt & Redmond, Seth & Olive, Shamir & Sara, Tara & Joey, and Vanck & Ashton chose this task.

Kevin & Jenn were unable to complete either Detour due to both sites closing for the day due to safety concerns. They were simply handed their clue and assessed a 2-hour penalty at the Pit Stop.

Teams must drive themselves to Cinta Costera Tres to check in.
