We're Getting Out of the Country, Girls is the fifth episode of The Amazing Race: Family Edition.

Synopsis[]

Teams are ecstatic to trade their car keys for plane tickets to their next destination out of the country.

The families depart from New Orleans, La. and head to Barro Colorado Islanda in Gamboa, Panama. One racer repeatedly strikes out during a road block and gets irritated by the incessant encouragement from fellow teammates. Two teams race for the first Fast Forward on the course where they must face a fear of extreme heights. Under enormous pressure and afraid of falling behind, one family gets heated with their driver for wanting to pick up other passengers.[2]

Story[]

Route Markers[]

The order of departure from Preservation Hall are as follows:

  1. Bransen Family (12:40 am)
  2. Paolo Family (12:41 am)
  3. Linz Family (12:49 am)
  4. Godlewski Family (1:39 am)
  5. Weaver Family (1:52 am)
  6. Gaghan Family (1:54 am)

Teams must fly to Panama City, Panama. Upon arrival, teams must make their way to Gamboa and find the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. Once there, teams must board a boat and cross the Panama Canal to Barro Colorado Island and find a scientist named Ricardo Diaz, who would give their next clue.

The Fast Forward instructions were given to teams after receiving their clue at Barro Colorado Island. Teams must travel by Diablo Rojo to Balboa and find Pier 12 on the Panama Canal. At Pier 12, they will find a crane and in pairs, must tandem bungee jump. Once all members have completed the drop, they would win the Fast Forward. The Paolo Family won the Fast Forward.

Choice A: Rhythm
Teams must travel by Diablo Rojo to Casco Viejo. There, they must visit several locations to collect four musical instruments – a saxophone from the National Theatre of Panama, a trumpet from Escuela Simón Bolívar, a conga drum from Casa Góngora, and a trombone from Instituto Nacional de Cultura. Once they have retrieved all the instruments, they must deliver them by foot to Take Five Jazz and Wine and place each instrument in their proper case to receive their next clue from a band leader.

The Gaghan, Godlewski, and Linz Families chose this task.

Choice B: Coos
Teams must travel by Diablo Rojo to Parque Natural Metropolitano and use binoculars to search within the rainforest canopy for wooden replicas of five local bird species. They must encircle the correct bird species discovered on a provided bird identification card. When all five are encircled, they must present the card to the bird expert to get their next clue. However, if they encircle the wrong birds, they would have to repeat the task until getting it right.

The Bransen and Weaver Families chose this task.

Teams must travel by Diablo Rojo to Estadio Juan Demóstenes Arosemena and find their next clue on the grounds of the stadium.

"Who can hit in a pinch?"

The team member assigned to perform this Roadblock must step up to the baseball plate and face off against a champion little league pitcher. If the team member could successfully hit a base hit or a home run, they would receive their next clue from the umpire. Only one team member could attempt the task at a time and would have to return to the back of the queue if they failed three times.

The Roadblock performers per team are underlined:

Teams must make their way to the Miraflores Locks to check in.

For coming in first place, the Paolo Family won a Gamboa Rainforest Resort package at the Panama Canal, Panama provided by Travelocity.

For coming in last place, the Godlewski Family would have to surrender all of their money and possessions, except for the clothes they are wearing and their passports, and they would not receive any money at the start of the next leg.
