We're in Miami Baby! is the season finale of The Amazing Race 37. It was advertised as the second part of a two-part season finale alongside "My Knight in Shining Armor".
Story[]
Continuing the events from the last episode, Jonathan & Ana pick up the pieces of the shattered tile to attach to the wall and get their puzzle approved, with Alyssa & Josiah getting theirs approved shortly afterwards. The two married couples make their way across the Douro River to find the Pit Stop, frantically searching for Phil at every angle. Jonathan & Ana are ultimately able to secure the last spot in the final leg. Despite a rough day, the couple vow to improve upon what they did wrong to win the grand prize.
Alyssa & Josiah arrive in last place and are eliminated. While the nurses are disappointed they didn't win the money to help with their financial problems and their new family, they still had a great time on the race and affirm their love for one another, hugging each other as they watch the sunset.
Carson & Jack receive the first clue of the last leg at Douro River the next day. All teams will fly back to the United States and land in Miami, Florida. Having won four out of eleven legs, the gamers are confident they will have what it takes to win. They would find the money particularly helpful given that Jack's recently become unemployed and it could help cover housing costs for a while or encourage them to build up their YouTube channel more.
Han & Holden are the next to leave. Though the siblings acknowledge that they have never won a leg in the season, they know this one is the one to win and vow to give it their all and build upon their strengths they've used to get this far.
Jonathan & Ana are the last to leave. They discuss how the last few legs have been rough and how they've learned from them to push themselves to the finale, and would like to use the million dollar prize to contribute to their daughters' college fund. All teams arrive at the airport, but Jonathan & Ana secretly print out a map of Miami to help them navigate when they get over there. As they're taking the Turkish Airlines flight, Carson & Jack get business class seating on the flight for winning the last leg, though the other two teams get decent seats with a lot of leg room as well.
Upon landing, teams are instructed to head to Crandon Park Marina. Carson & Jack are the first to get a taxi cab, putting them minutes ahead of the other teams. Though Han & Holden manage to get the second one, Jonathan & Ana's taxi passes them. When they arrive at the marina, the teams are guided to a speedboat, where a helmsman will take them to the other side of the marina to find their next clue. The gamers' boat leaves first, followed by the couple and the siblings. All the teams experience the fast thrills of the boat and embrace the fact they've all made it to the finale.
It was soon found out the leg had to be postponed to two days due to bad weather upon restarting the leg, Carson & Jack unlock the season's final twist, the Scramble. The three teams are told the the locations of all three tasks that they could complete in any order: Sail at Coral Reef Yacht Club, Soar at the Venetian Marina and Yacht Club, and Save at South Pointe Park. For each task completed, teams would receive a puzzle piece. When all three were received, they would be combined to form a hint that would reveal the location of their next clue. Carson & Jack choose to do Save first since the South Pointe Park is closer, and ask a nearby local for directions to the location. Jonathan & Ana, already having the map, use the opportunity to pass them and head towards Save as well. Han & Holden also ask a resident for directions before heading for Save.
The couple arrives at South Pointe Park first. Save involves the teams becoming lifeguards, with one teammate operating a jet ski while the other holds onto the attached rescue sled and rescues a dummy in the ocean. Due to Ana's fear of the ocean, they decide to have her drive the jet ski while Jonathan rescues the dummy. They push the jet ski into the water with the team, though have a slight delay due to Ana panicking and jumping on the jet ski before its fully in the water. The gamers arrive shortly afterwards, with them choosing Carson to jet ski while Jack rescues the dummy. As they prepare their life jackets, Jonathan & Ana head out into the water to retrieve the dummy with minimal difficulty. Han & Holden arrive last, with Han operating the jet ski while Holden rescues.
The couple returns with their dummy just as the gamers enter the water. Despite his smaller stature, Jack has little issue unhooking the dummy and getting back on the rescue sled. The couple receive their first puzzle piece, which is the letter "E". As the siblings prepare to enter the water, Jonathan & Ana decide to head towards Sail for their next task. Though there's some slight miscommunication with Han on the jet ski, they are able to bring the dummy back. Carson & Jack decide to do Soar next since the Venetian Marina and Yacht Club is closer, with the siblings following suit. Jonathan & Ana meanwhile get lost on the way to the Coral Reef Yacht Club, and decide to change routes as they realize the Soar task is closer. Jonathan gets frustrated on their indecisiveness and knows they likely lost time and their lead from this mistake.
Carson & Jack arrive at the marina and yacht club first, where they discover Soar is a Roadblock. One team member has to go in the water and ride a flyboard for 60 seconds without falling to receive a puzzle piece. Jack volunteers for the task due to Carson's fear of heights and gets excited upon learning what it's about. As he begins learning from his instructor, the siblings arrive at the task, with Han choosing to do it. Jack gets nervous upon seeing Han's doing it knowing her background in surfing will be advantageous. After learning how to operate it, Jack is only able to last for a few seconds. However, Han doesn't fair much better, as the device is difficult and hard to get accustomed to in the air.
Jonathan & Ana arrive last. They decide to have Ana go for it since it involves heights, but she's mortified upon learning she has to go into the ocean water to do this. Jack and Han continue to struggle on the flyboard, initially only lasting for a few seconds on their first tries, but slowly get more time in the air as they continue to practice. Ana's attempts are even worse than her competitors, and she begins to have a panic attack in the water, with the instructor helping her calm down as she gets her bearings crashing multiple times in the water. As their attempts eventually reach the double digits, Jack and Han are able to last more than half the time needed. With both of them having their best attempts almost simultaneously, Han crashes after the halfway point, but Jack is able to stay up for the full sixty seconds, becoming the first to succeed at the task. He receives the next puzzle piece and heads back to the marina, enthusiastically greeting Carson. As the gamers leave, both Holden and Jonathan continue to worry about their partners.
The gamers ask for directions to the last stop of the Scramble, the Coral Reef Yacht Club. After a few more attempts, Han is able to last the full sixty seconds and complete the Roadblock. On her way back, she's disappointed it took her that long to do it as they initially believed it was the perfect chance to catch Carson & Jack. Ana continues to struggle with the flyboard, but does eventually reach her time into double digits. The siblings ask for directions and begin to head towards the yacht club. The gamers arrive there first, where they are instructed to guide their small sailboat through six marked buoys around a small island to receive the last part of the puzzle. Despite Jack going to sailing camp when he was younger, he and Carson struggle to get it moving since its smaller than what they're used to and are even blown backwards.
After nearly 20 attempts at the flyboard, Ana is finally able to succeed in getting it up in the air for a minute. As she heads back, she begins to cry, believing her struggles will cost her and Jonathan the million dollar prize for their girls. Though the gamers see other sailors beside them show how to navigate in their boats, they decide the best way to move forward is to paddle. It's a daunting and tiring task, but it proves to pay off as they move forward and pass the first couple of buoys. As they pass their second, the siblings arrive and begin the task as well, encountering similar struggles to the gamers despite Holden's experience with sailing.
Ana makes it back to Jonathan, who expresses pride in her overcoming her fear to get the task done despite them being in last as they head to the yacht club. The siblings eventually resort to paddling just like the gamers. Carson's also able to use the ship's rotor to steer them and get some speed, though they find the tedious paddling still appears to be the best option, as they don't want to continuously lean out of the boat and go under the sail like the other boaters are doing. The siblings also find the task grueling as they keep an eye on the buoys. The couple arrive at the club and just like the first two teams, struggle with sailing and resort to paddling the entire way.
Carson & Jack eventually make it back and receive their final piece. The three pieces form a domino with eight dots on it and spell the word "calle". Thanks to a worker at the yacht club, they are able to figure out they need to head to Calle Ocho Domino Park and receive directions from him. Han & Holden arrive shortly afterwards and figure out the clue from a local. Unfortunately, the gamers are held back by local Miami traffic while navigating over there. However, the siblings don't fare much better. During a dispute on directions, Han doesn't pay attention and accidentally speeds into another car. They have difficulty communicating to the other driver as he speaks Spanish, however, Holden, who speaks somewhat fluent Spanish, is able to tell them about their situation and convinces him to let them leave. Jonathan & Ana eventually finish their sailing challenge and figure out the clue as well.
Carson & Jack are the first to arrive at the Calle Ocho Domino Park, where they are instructed to head to Ice Palace Films Studios. The siblings arrive shortly afterwards to receive the same clue as well. The gamers arrive at the film studios and are introduced to their final Route Info challenge: They must assemble a giant postcard by arranging all the game-changing twists in order, then assembling the big pieces to form the word "AMAZING RACE", then plastering the correct image they encountered in the same leg as the respective twist. Carson & Jack assemble the twists first, being the more memorable parts of the race for them. They then begin examining the various puzzle pieces on the floor.
The siblings arrive shortly afterwards and begin the puzzle challenge as well, also starting with the twists. Both quickly figure out what they are supposed to spell and try to find a way to assemble the pieces and images quickly. At the same time, Jonathan & Ana arrive at the domino park and receive their clue. Carson & Jack eventually find how the images line up with the pegs of the pieces and decide to assemble the pictures first and fill in the pieces afterwards. The siblings also make similar progress, though assemble in a different order than their competitors. The gamers eventually complete the puzzle and it is approved by the inspector. They receive their final clue: Head to LoanDepot Park and cross the Finish Line. They excitedly leave while the siblings continue focusing on the puzzle.
Jonathan & Ana arrive at the studio and begin the task, believing they still have a shot since its a puzzle-related task, which is what allowed them to catch up last leg. Meanwhile, Carson has some difficulties navigating in some of the crowded parts of Miami, and he and Jack are forced to make quick decisions to find their way to the stadium while being nervous about the directions. Though Jonathan & Ana are able to assemble a good chunk of the puzzle quickly, the siblings are still able to complete the puzzle before them and leave to head to the Finish Line. Coincidentally, both Han and Jack promise their partners they won't crash into other cars as they rush towards the stadium. The gamers gasp as they appear to have finally come across their destination.
Carson & Jack arrive inside of the stadium, where Phil and the other eleven eliminated teams from the season are applauding. The two best friends freak out as they run up to the Finish Line, where Phil declares them the Official Winners of the 37th Season of the Amazing Race. As they are congratulated, they reflect on the unbelievable experiences they shared on the race and how they were able to overcome so much adversity together, with them feeling like the heroes they play in their own games becoming a real-life fantasy.
Han & Holden arrive later in second place. Despite not winning, the siblings are proud to able to make it this far given they've had little to no experience working together in the past and wouldn't do it with anyone else, also reflecting on how many teams they defeated despite being in the back for most legs.
Jonathan & Ana are the last ones to arrive at the stadium in third place. Despite not winning and fighting each other on several occasions on the way, the two are still committed to each other as a couple and a team, with Jonathan reflecting on how the race has taught him to accept factors that were out of his control and that they fought hard in the end.
The three teams reflect on their experiences in the Race for one last time before Phil and all 14 teams of Season 37 sign off and wave goodbye to the cameras, with Carson & Jack performing a goofy celebratory dance in the background.
Route Markers[]
The order of departure from Cais de Gaia are as follows:
- Carson & Jack (11:51 am)
- Han & Holden (12:42 pm)
- Jonathan & Ana (12:53 pm)
Teams must fly to Miami, Florida, United States. Upon arrival, teams must make their way to Crandon Park Marina and take a speedboat across Biscayne Bay to Maurice Gibb Memorial Park, where they would find their next clue.
At Crandon Park Marina, teams encountered the Scramble. Teams were told the locations of all three tasks, which were inspired by water, that they could complete in any order. For each task completed, teams would receive a puzzle piece. When all three were received, they would be combined to form a clue that would reveal the location of their next clue. The locations of each task, which teams must drive themselves to, were as follows:
- Sail at Coral Reef Yacht Club;
- Soar at the Venetian Marina and Yacht Club;
- Save at South Pointe Park
Teams must, following an ongoing demonstration, sail an Optimist dinghy around six marked buoys surrounding Valentines Island. Once they have returned to the dock, teams would receive a puzzle piece.
"Who's ready to go above and beyond?"
The team member assigned to this Roadblock must learn how to use a hydroflight Flyboard from an instructor. If they could remain airborne for 1 minute, teams would receive a puzzle piece.
The Roadblock performers per team are underlined:
Teams must engage in a lifeguard training exercise. One team member must pilot a personal watercraft to a buoy in the water while their partner rode behind on a board. At the buoy, the team member riding on the board must retrieve a mannequin, which they must then transport back to shore to receive a puzzle piece.
Teams must assemble all their puzzle pieces, which would be in the shape of a large domino with eight pips and the Spanish word "calle" written on it. Teams are left to figure out that they must drive themselves to Domino Park along Calle Ocho in Little Havana, where they would receive their next clue.
Teams must drive themselves to Ice Palace Films Studios, where they would find their next clue.
Teams must assemble a large three-dimensional postcard puzzle, with teams left to figure out that it spelled out "AMAZING RACE!". Teams must attach a corresponding image to each letter, depicting an image from each leg of the Race in order, and arrange signs indicating the game-changing elements in each episode in the order they were encountered. The solution for the final leg was filled out as reference. Once they have properly assembled the puzzle, they would receive their next clue.
