You Can't Drive While You're Crying is the season premiere of The Amazing Race 36.
Story[]
Thirteen new teams embark on the journey of a lifetime when host Phil Keoghan kicks off the 36th season of THE AMAZING RACE. Teams begin in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Route Markers[]
The race begins at Playa El Salado in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico.
Teams must drive themselves to the Puerto Vallarta malécon, where they would find their next clue by the voladores pole.
Choice A: Pick 'Em Up
Teams must make their way to 408 Calle Corona, where they must choose a pair of rocking horses, one large and one small, and deliver them down a steep hill to the sculpture In Search of Reason at the Puerto Vallarta malécon. They must then use provided screwdrivers to remove the wheels from each rocking horse. Once the wheels have been removed, they must present each rocking horse to a child in exchange for their next clue. Only seven teams may perform this task.
Amber & Vinny, Angie & Danny, Anthony & Bailey, Derek & Shelisa, Michelle & Sean, Sunny & Bizzy, and Yvonne & Melissa chose this task.
Choice B: Pin 'Em Down
Teams must make their way to Plaza Hidalgo, where they must watch a 40-second lucha libre battle royal, then identify the five luchador duos fighting each other using wooden boards that depicted each luchador's mask to receive their next clue. If they answer incorrectly, they must watch the battle royal again before being allowed to make another attempt. Only seven teams may perform this task.
Teams must drive themselves to Lienzo Charro Miguel "Prieto" Ibarria, where they would find their next clue.
"Who's feeling loopy?"
The team member assigned to this Roadblock must don a traditional charro outfit, then perform a charrería exercise by jumping through seven spinning lassos without touching the rope or knocking over their hat. Once they have completed the exercise, they would receive their next clue.

Teams must drive themselves to Plaza de Los Arcos del Malecón to check in.
This leg is a No-Rest Leg. Teams would check in as normal, but receive their clue to start the next leg from host Phil Keoghan. The team that comes in last place would be eliminated.

- This is the first episode to air in the month of March since "In the Hands of The Amazing Race Gods" in The Amazing Race 33.
- This marks the first time since "This Seems Like the Path Straight to Hell!" in The Amazing Race 3 that a team is eliminated in Mexico, and the first time since "One Million Miles" in The Amazing Race 32 that a team is eliminated in a No-Rest Leg.
